Who is Priscilla Chan?

The wedding of Mark Zuckerberg to Priscilla Chan last weekend here in the backyard of their $7 million home had all the staging of a carefully orchestrated celebrity event. A publicist for Facebook eagerly offered photos afterward of the beaming couple, who met at Harvard and have dated for much of the last nine years. Well placed anonymous sources leaked to reporters the dinner menu, which included sushi and Mexican food, and the fact that Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong performed.

PowerPot “kickstarter series#2”

Simply put,the PowerPottransforms the heat from cooking into electricity with no moving parts.  This is done using a technology called thermoelectric power generation. Thermoelectric technology was discovered in the early 1800’s, but found no consumer application in power generation due to the relatively high power needs of the devices in use at the time. However, times have changed. Today, nearly everyone uses microelectronics-based devices (smart phones, mp3 players, GPS units, etc.) which consume less than 5 watts of power.

augmented-reality glasses that you can buy today

While Google’s augmented-reality glasses are receiving immense attention they’re certainly not the first pieces of eyewear to include an integrated display.

Recon has been in the head-up display (HUD) game since 2010. The company’s first product, the Transcend, was a partnership with Zeal Optics to bring a HUD to the eyes of skiers and snowboarders. The HUD goggles use a rider’s GPS location to display elevation, speed, and time of day in a small screen that sits at the bottom-right of the user’s field of vision — and it’s all in real time. All the cumulative data from a day on the slopes can be downloaded to a computer, and the GPS information can be associated with interactive maps so users can chart their speeds against location.

Recon’s current MOD ($300) and MOD Live ($400) products augment the original Transcend goggles with features that include jump analytics, buddy tracking, music playback, navigation, and smartphone connectivity. The goggles won’t tell you that the subway is running late, but Android connectivity will alert you when you have an incoming call or text.

Google+ revamped with Facebook and Twitter like features

The search-engine giant has introduced trending topics and cover pictures, as well as a more “dynamic” navigation menu. The company said more than 170m people have “upgraded” to the social network so far. The service now displays a list of the most commonly discussed subjects, known as trending topics. This feature mirrors microblogging site Twitter, which first introduced trending topic lists on its site in 2010.

Facebook still has enough cash lying around to buy 4 more Instagrams

Even after spending $1 billion in cash and stock to buy instagram earlier this week, facebook STILL has at least $4 billion in cash to spend right now. In a couple weeks, Facebook will have another couple billion to spend, thanks to its $5 billion IPO. Now, it’s obviously very unlikely that Facebook will go out and spend any of that $4 billion in the next few weeks or months. But and this was our source’s good point the cash does mean that Google or microsoft orAmazon can’t step in and buy Tumblr, Pinterest, or some other big social media startup without worry about Facebook bidding up the price. There is no Facebook is out of cash discount for its rivals.

Amazon Adds In-App Purchasing to Appstore

Amazon, following the lead of Apple and Google, on Tuesday announced that it will begin letting users make purchases within the apps offered via its Appstore.

The new in-app purchasing service allows developers to charge for digital content, such as upgrades, expansion packs, in-game currency, and magazine issues. With the new service, users of the Kindle Fire and other Android devices will be able to purchase in-app content with just one click.

A number of developers and publishers have already begun taking advantage of the capability, including Walt Disney Co., Gameloft, Conde Nast, Dow Jones.

earlier this month; Amazon has been testing the service since November.

“Amazon Appstore’s In-App Purchasing service enables developers to generate more revenue from their apps,” Aaron Rubenson, director of the Amazon Appstore, said in a statement. “Many of Amazon Appstore’s customers have shopped with Amazon before and they trust Amazon’s easy payment process, which leads to higher conversion of developers’ in-app content and subscriptions.”

This is important because Amazon currently has about 34,000 apps in its Appstore, while Google Play has 450,000 and the Apple App Store has at least 500,000. It’s also a win for Amazon because the online retailer keeps a 30 percent cut of every in-app purchase.

Test Drive: the 2012 BMW 3 series Sedan

When BMW rolls out an all-new 3 Series, it’s big news, since these have been the benchmark of German sedans for the last 30 years or more. It also sets off a tectonic shift in the entry-level luxury market, with the Mercedes-Benz C Class, Audi A, not to mention the Cadillac CTS, Infiniti G and the Lexus GS suddenly called upon to step up their game to follow along.

This automotive war of attrition becomes a win for the consumer, as the arms race among the automakers gives the consumer a lot more choice. Really, who can argue with better, faster and safer cars every few years?

Just a update on Instagrams recent success:

On the sixth day, there were more than 5 million downloads of Instagram for Android.

That’s right, in just six days, the free photo-sharing app has registered 5 million to 10 million downloads on the google play site. The same milestone took about six months for the iphone app to reach.
